Dear New Student,
Welcome to The Krupnick Approach. In deciding to seek us out for college and graduate school test-prep, you have made the first of many savvy decisions. If you are like most students, you are probably not especially excited about taking the ACT/SAT. Tests are long, tests cause anxiety, and, you’ve probably been told, these tests will determine your future. The reality, I can say with 15 years of test-prep experience behind me, is that they are far from the be-all and end-all of human existence. They are a step along the way in your own personal journey that you define and that you create, only for yourself. Standardized tests will not determine your future, you determine your future, but doing well will give you more options. That is what we will do together–help you have more options.
This brings us to the second myth about these tests–that they are aptitude or intelligence tests. This idea is even more misguided than that they will determine your future. Admissions tests are really just a test of one basic skill–how well you can learn and master the test itself. For college and graduate school admission, you don’t have to be a math genius or know five foreign languages; all you need to dramatically boost your score are some basic rules and strategies, and you need to practice them over and over again. If you’re going to search for an analogy, admissions tests are a lot like learning how to play a game–and, like any game, we’re going to try to master it. Remember, these tests are written by human beings like us, human beings who are trying to trick and psych us out. Our job is to remain unintimidated and outsmart the test.
Working together, we will go through the systems, strategies, and shortcuts that will enable you to crack the ACT/SAT/GRE and move on to the next phase in your personal journey. I cannot promise exact scores, but my students see average gains of at least 6 points on the ACT and improvements that are similar on the SAT and GRE. Like all things, this is going to involve some give and take; the more work you put in, the more you can expect to get out of this program.
Again, I welcome you to The Krupnick Approach. I look forward to helping you crush the ACT/SAT, and I look forward (in a bigger sense) to helping you move one step further toward whatever future you decide to make for yourself. A future filled with more choices along the way.
All the best,
