David Torres

David Torres has tutored students in Mathematics and Science for 7 years and has a consistent record of improving standardized scores and elucidating topics in test prep, high-school curricula, and college-level courses. He specialized in Probability and Stochastic Processes for his Mathematics B.A. from Northwestern (and a BA in Economics) and his M.S. in Computer Science from Northwestern. His areas of expertise for standardized tests include ACT Math, ACT Science, SAT Math, SSAT Math, and GRE/GMAT Quantitative. Since the high school curriculum in math and science varies in both material and difficulty,  David applies his well-rounded skills to reach a broad range of test-taking students with different strengths and weaknesses.  Also, his experience working with students with ADHD,  behavioral challenges, and learning differences makes him a good fit for any test taker.

David tutors through the AP-level in math and science in areas including but  not limited to Algebra, Geometry, Trig, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Chemistry, Physics, Economics,  Computer Science, and Statistics.  David  has a special talent for translating complex math topics  into a simple and straightforward language that all his students can understand. David has also tutored college level Economics, Calculus, Chemistry, and Computer Science.

David’s ability to develop students’ mathematical sense contributes to improvements in both practical and intellectual terms.  His students report dramatic improvements in grades and test scores and  transformations in  problem solving, abstract reasoning, and analytic thinking,   His students have been consistently accepted to University of Illinois Engineering, MIT, University of Chicago, and University of Michigan Engineering.

David enjoys seeing his students succeed, but most importantly he understands the satisfaction all share by accomplishing goals through work ending in comprehension.  There is no better feeling in the world than helping  students reach that “aha” moment where they rise to their potential and not only earn recognition from others,, but also recognize what they’ve earned  in themselves.
