Andrew Welsh is an English language arts tutor specializing in critical reading, grammar, vocabulary development, evidence-based reasoning, and academic composition. With well over a decade of teaching and tutoring experience, Andrew’s career focus has been to support students in developing the skills needed for admission to their dream university and success thereafter. His test preparation expertise includes the SAT, PSAT, and ACT exams as well as international language assessments such as TOEFL, IELTS, and TOEIC.
Andrew’s approach centers on honing student skills for particular assessment tasks while also contextualizing these skills so that they can remain impactful well beyond test day. With this in mind, he emphasizes the effect that grammar, word choice, and language structure have on message effectiveness, helping students improve their overall communicative competence in addition to their exam score. Throughout his career Andrew has worked with a diverse range of students, prioritizing the individuality and goals of each to help them move forward on their path to success.
Andrew earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Cincinnati and his master’s degree in applied linguistics from the University of Nottingham. He has taught in China and Japan as well as the US, and currently resides in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Andrew is an enthusiastic student of languages and linguistics. In his free time he studies game design and develops digital language learning applications.
